Since that first tent meeting on August 24, 1924, we have been blessed with the guidance of all our pastors—past and present—and we will faithfully continue to serve Logansport and Cass County, Indiana, for the next 100 years.

“A tent meeting at the corner of Nineteenth and Spear Streets in 1924 led to the founding of the Church of the Nazarene in this city.
“The official organization of the church took place in a building at 2009 George Street. It afterward was moved to Sixth Street, and from there to a location on Burlington Avenue. Rev. Barker (1924-1925) was the first pastor.
“In 1938, under the leadership of Rev. O. W. Moore (1937-1939), the present church building at 841 Sherman Street was obtained. It was during the pastorate of the Rev. George D. Christian (1939-1941) that the church was clear of debt, and the mortgage was turned June 15, 1941.”

-- Rev. Carl C. Hansen (1952-1955)

Since Rev. Hansen’s letter, the Fairview Church of the Nazarene (as it was known then due to the church’s location in the Fairview school district of Logansport, Indiana) reached several more milestones in its rich history. In 1962 under the pastorate of Rev. G. C. Morgan (1955-1972), the church moved to its current location on W. Clinton Street.  Two other pastors filled the pulpit following his retirement—Rev. A. Silvernail (1972-1973) and Rev. F. Harvey (1973-1977).

Then, in July 1977, Dr. Rev. Horace D. Smith led the Church of the Nazarene through the longest pastoral administration to date, including two additional building projects—the Sunday School annex in 1983 and the Family Life Center (FLC) in 1992. Additionally, upon discovering legal documents that had been filed with the state of Indiana, the church voted to change the name to its formal and present title: Logansport First Church of the Nazarene.

Rev. Smith retired in April 2014 after nearly 37 years of ministry in Logansport, and a new chapter has begun under the direction of Rev. Jeff S. Allen (2014-present), who grew up in Logansport and was ordained into the Church of the Nazarene in 2001.
